The Nike Training App for the iPhone is awesome and FREE! You can pick the style of workout, how much time you have, and select the exercises. You can look at the photos or watch the video. A great app for when you are at the gym and don't quite know what to do.

Omron Pedometer: A Step in the Right Direction

Now that I keep hearing that we need to get 10,000 steps in a day for abolute minimum activity, I decided to get a pedometer. After reading reviews, I chose this the Omron based on simplicity and accuracy and hoped the reviews would meet expectations. I have the Omron HJ 112 which probably has an updated version, but this one is great if you can still get it.

I've been very happy with this pedometer. Once I got the stride adjusted, I was amazed with the accuracy. I had no idea what 10,000 steps were and at my sit down job, I barely get in 4,000 steps. I've started taking a daily walk around the industrial parking lot where I work which is a mile. It really pumps up the step count. On a couple of nights when it wasn't too cold, I decided to walk to pick up my takout dinner just to get the steps in.

So, I'm sold. The only warning I have is to make sure to use the safety strap around your belt loop and not just the clip. Otherwise, you might find yourself in the situation I was in where I accidentally knocked off the pedometer as the toilet was flushing in a public restroom. The toilet had such force that it suck away my gadget which relieved me of having to decide whether or not to stick my hand in there to remove it. Given the situation, I was OK with making a re-purchase.

Garmin Forerunner GPS Wristwatch

I love my Garmin Forerunner. I have the 305 which is an older version.
 It is a GPS wristwatch. I've taken it out several times now on bike rides, walks, and hikes. You just press the button when you begin and press it again when you stop. It not only logs how far you went, but you can download the information into the Garmin software and it give you a detailed map of your travels and keeps other stats such as the time it took. If you stop and go along the way, all of the data is store until you download it.

It also has a heart rate monitor. It works fine, but the number on the screen is so small, I could barely read it. I sent an email to Garmin and they gave me instructions on how to customize the screen and now I can read it even in the dimmed light of the spinning class.
 

Magic Bullet for Healthy Shakes

I love the Magic Bullet. Well, I don't have the real one, but a knock of Bella Cuccina, but it's the same concept. It is so easy to use and is very easy clean up. Just put your ingredients into the cup, blend it up, and then you can drink right from the same cup. II always keep frozen fruit on hand so I'm always ready to go.

The Target near me now sells frozen fruit on the cheap. Bananas are also a staple of mine. If you are stuck with more ripe bananas than you know what to do with, you can slice them, put them in a ziplock and pop them in the freezer. They don't have a really long freezer life, but it gives you more time before they go bad.

I typically throw some skim milk, frozen fruit and a fresh banana and blend. I've also used yogurt in the mix. When I want to be real decadent, I'll throw in a sugar free chocolate pudding. It is my version of low fat/low cal shake.
